Specialized panel registration: Strategies for financial sustainability
Government funding is a critical resource for nonprofit organizations; however, shifting priorities at the federal, state, and local levels create unprecedented financial vulnerability for these organizations and the communities they serve. This panel of experts reveals alarming data: 84.2% of Puerto Rico’s nonprofit organizations that file IRS Form 990 would face financial deficits if they lost government grants, compared with 67.3% nationwide. Puerto Rico’s nonprofit sector employs more than 100,000 people and serves an estimated 700,000 residents annually; yet it operates within a challenging context where 44% of the population lives below the poverty line.
Drawing on comprehensive research, including assessments of nearly 800 community-based organizations and longitudinal studies dating back to 1996, this session will provide both data-driven insights and practical solutions. Participants will learn about indicators of financial risk, patterns of organizational health, and evidence-based strategies to build sustainable operations regardless of fluctuations in government funding.
