[Report] At the Medicaid Cliff: What’s at Stake for Maternal and Infant Health in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico relies heavily on Medicaid to finance maternal and infant health care. Plan Vital, Puerto Rico’s Medicaid program, finances approximately 65.8% of births on the island and provides coverage across pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, infancy, and childhood. This report applies a descriptive, multidisciplinary policy analysis to examine projected changes in Medicaid financing and their implications for maternal and infant health in Puerto Rico. It integrates documentary review, quantitative secondary data, qualitative evidence from families and stakeholders, and descriptive fiscal analysis.
